This mask has been decorated in the 'Scacchi' style, which is based on the diamond shape of a chessboard.  Each of the diamond shapes is bordered with a lovely pattern in gold relief on the left side of the mask and the right eye surrounded by gold.  Several of the other diamond shapes are gold.
